Petition to Secretary of State Clinton on women and peace and security

Too often women and children bear the greatest brunt of war. Violence against women is repeatedly used to break and humiliate women, men and communities in conflict areas around the world.

On October 31, 2000 the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1325 on women and peace and security. But its implementation has been far too slow.

On this 10th anniversary we’re asking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the leadership of the United States in ensuring that peace processes around the world have the full participation of women at all stages. Women’s innovative and courageous actions to demand accountability for human rights violations during conflict, their role in sustaining their communities, and the alternatives they create to address conflict, must be recognized. Please take action and sign our petition to Secretary Clinton below.

Dear Secretary of State Clinton:

Ten years ago, the United Nations Security Council called for strengthening women’s active participation in peace building processes through UNSC Resolution 1325. World leaders recognized the critical importance of women’s equal participation in conflict prevention and during the peace process. But its implementation by countries has been far too slow.

We know women and children bear the greatest brunt of war as violence against women is used to break and humiliate women, men and communities.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the global women’s movement asks that the United States takes the lead in ensuring, to the largest extent possible, that peace processes around the world have the full participation of women at all stages.

You have the opportunity to breathe life into UNSCR 1325 and make it a reality. We need your leadership to ensure the resolution is fully implemented, now.

Sincerely,
This petition is no longer active.
This petition has a goal of 10000 signatures
